Summer School of Programming 2023
Once again, we have the opportunity to socialize in person and learn together, at the Second Summer School of Programming in Sremska Mitrovica
We invite students who completed the fifth, sixth, seventh or eighth grade of primary school this summer to register for the free Summer School of Programming.
This year, the Summer School of Programming will be held in Sremska Mitrovica, from 28 July until 4 August 2023, and from 23 August until 30 August 2023. Participants will receive accommodation and full board, in the High School Student Home in Sremska Mitrovica. Classes will take place at Mitrovica High School, which is located in the city center.
Apart from the informatics part of the program, which will be focused on solving algorithmic problems using the Python programming language and working in its Pygame library for 2D graphics, the students will have the opportunity to meet and hear from experts from the IT industry and participate in recreational activities such as excursions, quizzes and game nights.
Accommodation, meals and the program of the Summer School of Programming are free for participants, while parents or guardians are expected to organize and cover the transportation.
To apply, the candidate must create an account on the petlja.org portal. Interested students should apply no later than 21:00, 5 July 2023, by filling out the questionnaire together with a parent or guardian, the questionnaire can be found at the following link: https://petlja.org/prijavni_formular. Even though parts of the questionnaire should be filled in with a parent or guardian, it is important that the students answer the questions regarding their previous experience with programming independently.
After the closing of the application window on 5 July 2023, all registered candidates, who filled out the application form successfully, will receive an email with additional information and a link to the programming knowledge test, which they will be able to take in the period from 10 a.m. 6 July until 10 a.m. 8 July. The test is done by using the textual programming language Python on Petlja's platform. Please note that the Petlja Foundation reserves the right to organize a second round of testing, as well as to disqualify a candidate who is found to have cheated during the test.
The number of places at the Summer School of Programming is limited to 100 participants divided into two sessions of 50 participants each. The final selection of candidates will be carried out by an expert committee and the selected students and their parents or guardians will be informed no later than 15 July 2023. The ranking will be formed based on test results and demonstrated motivation and interest in the field of programming. Students who are invited to the Summer School of Programming will be assigned to appropriate groups in order to attend the program suitable to their prior knowledge. In the event that too many students choose the same date for attending the Summer School of Programming, higher-ranked candidates will have priority in choosing the date.
If you have additional questions, feel free to send us an email at: letnjaskola@mg.petlja.org
The Summer School of Programming is organized by the Petlja Foundation within the “Building Key Computing Competencies - Towards the Workforce of the Future” implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
